About the Game

Enter the Fairytale
Fairytale is the game that combines a classic storybook mood and adventure game feeling with a new and fresh perspective on interactive products for children. Both young boys and girls today are used to computers and computer games and have much more adept communicative skills than most developers of children's games seem to believe. Also, we think that a lot of games aimed at children, girls in particular, have a tendency to underestimate their target group.

This is one of the reasons we decided to create Fairytale, we wanted to offer a challenging, none-stereotypic, intelligent, incredulous, cute, exciting, mischevous and funny alternative and by doing so we hoped to encourage the culture and understanding of computer games.

We sat down and thought about all the things we used to appreciate as kids; our favourite books, games and stories, collecting trinkets, climbing trees, creating our own magic kingdoms to explore and play in, and then poured as much of that as we could into the game.

Gameplay - Classic yet innovative simultaneously

Explore the world of Fairytale, talk to people and animals to help them with their problems and to receive quests. By solving quests and puzzles you level your feelings such as patience, empathy or determination wich enables you to unlock new quests, places and key moments that will allow you to advance the story of the game and prepare you for the challenges ahead.

Levelling Feelings...
An example of this is levelling your empathy and determination by climbing a huge tree to save a squirrel from harms way, or levelling your patience by listening to the stories of an ancient old tree. The more feelings you experience the better you will handle the later quests of wich some, e.g., will require a high level of determination and kindness in order to be available to you.

...Challenges with Quests
The quests are designed as mini games that triggers automatically when you enter certain areas and may consist of various challenges such as jumping on leaves, navigating a dragonfly, picking fruits, searching for hidden items or listening to stories read by a voice actor. You may also receive key items wich you can equip through your inventory. These will either enhance your skills, such as jumping extra high with the “Springfeather Boots” or help you unlock the secrets of the game such as “Big Book of Trolls”...

Handywork

Everything you see in the game we built by own device and design. The graphics are 2D and handrawn in at first to be colored in photoshop later on. The engine is developed by Jens Hedenskog och Björn Bergsstrand and make use of SDL & Open GL both. To us, creating games is a mixture between art, craftsmanship and technology...

We're currently searching for puplishers. As of now there is no current version of Fairytale distributed and available at the market.
